This page gives information about how to find our meeting places. A map to
help you do this is referenced several times in the text. As this is a large
file and may take some time to download, we suggest that you read through the
relevant parts of the text before attempting to download it.The map should be
downloading in the background while you're doing this.
Nearly all Weekend and some
Tuesday Evening events start from the
steps at the main entrance of the National Museum of Wales, Gardens Road,
Cathays Park - see the map. We go on from there in
the smallest number of cars to our destination. Therefore, we usually return to
the museum after the event. Unless otherwise specified, it is not necessary to
drive to the Museum; there are normally enough cars.
Most other Tuesday Evening events take place in Chapter Arts Centre, Market Street, Canton. We may use one of three rooms, so please look for information at the entrance. Meetings normally start at 8 p.m. If you want to get a drink before the meeting, the bar is to the left after you've come through the entrance doors. Drinks can be taken to the meeting room. We then stay for a social drink in the bar afterwards, or we may go to a nearby pub.
For other events, instructions are given in the Weekend or Tuesday Evening programmes.
The museum is about 12 minutes walk from Cardiff Central Station or 5 minutes from Cardiff Queen Street.
From the north side of Central Station (where the ticket office is),
·turn right and walk through the car park.
·At the Monument Junction, cross St. Marys Street and continue up
Mill Lane through the "Café Quarter". The Marriot Hotel
is on your right.
·At the end of Mill Lane, turn left up The Hayes, bearing right
where the road divides around the Old Central Library. St. Davids Hall will be
on your right at this point.
·The road becomes Working Street - continue to the end and turn
right into Queen Street (pedestrianised). At this point Cardiff Castle is
across this junction.
·Take the first left from Queen Street into the Friary and
continue until the crossroads with Kingsway / Greyfriars Road.
·Cross Kingsway (Pelecon crossing) and continue straight on. The
civic buildings of the Law Courts, City Hall and the National Museum of Wales
are visible straight ahead.
·Take the pedestrian underpass ahead (under Boulevard de Nantes)
and go up the steps on the far side.
·Turn right, pass City Hall (to your left) and the Museum is on
the left.
From Queen Street Station, see the map for directions. For information about train times see the National Rail Enquiries website or ring 08457 48 49 50.
The central Bus station is next to the railway station: walk to the entrance and follow the directions from Cardiff Central Station. In addition, a number of buses go closer, with stops on Greyfriars Road, Park Place and Dumfries Place. Phone Cardiff Bus on 029 2039 6521 or visit the Cardiff Bus website for more information.
The National Museum of Wales is on the North East edge of the city centre. See the map.
There is limited cycle parking near the kiosk that controls motor access to City Hall, between City Hall and the Museum, but on the opposite side of the road.
There is usually ample parking on Sundays in the roads around the museum. On other days, a parking voucher may be needed - these are available from most newsagents and similar outlets.
Chapter is about 8 minutes walk from Ninian Park Station on the City Line (served by Valleys Lines trains).
Buses Buses 17 & 18 provide a service at least every 10 minutes along Cowbridge Road East. Ask for Canton Police Station. Chapter is only a couple of minutes walk away - walk along Library Street - Chapter is at the far end. (Phone Cardiff Bus on 029 2039 6521 or visit the Cardiff Bus website for more information.).
Chapter is 20 - 25 minutes walk from the city centre along Cowbridge Road East.
There is ample cycle parking at the front of Chapter.
There is a car park behind Chapter - there is normally adequate space, but it may be busy when there are popular films or other events on.
There is also a small car park in front of the Insole Pub a few blocks west.
